CACI DANCE TRADITIONAL DANCE OF MANGGARAI

Caci dance is traditional war dance of manggaraian in Flores island, it is the game of dexterity test in
martial arts combined with a dance. Performed by two males dancers who dance and fight each other using a whip as weapon and shield as a the protector and the boat of things are made of buffalo leather. This dance is often displayed at various events such as when the celebration of the harvest season (hang Woja), ritual new year (penti), and various other ceremonies, and now it’s normally performance to celebrate Indonesian independence day.
According to historic caci dance originated from the tradition of the Manggarai community where men fight each other to test their courage and agility in battle. The dance was developed into an art in which there is a dance, song and music accompaniment to add the value of arts. Caci comes from the word "ca" means "one" and "ci" means "test". So the abuse can be interpreted as a test of dexterity one on one.
As its function this dance is the way for the Men in Manggarai to prove their virility, both in terms of courage and dexterity. Although in performing contained violence but this dance has a message of peace such as the spirit of sportsmanship, mutual respect, and resolved without rancor between the dancer. This matter can show that they have spirit and heroic in their self.
Caci dance is performed by a group of male dancers armed with a whip and shield. In the show, a group of dancers divided into two sections and competed against each other. Before the dancers competed, the show first started with an other dance that called Danding tandak dance. The dance is performed by dancers that consist of male and female as the opening ceremony. After the opening dance followed by Caci dance attractions.
Two dancers would enter the arena, first dancer warming up by doing dance. Then they challenged each other while singing traditional songs, and then the game began. In this  attraction there is a rule, players can only hit the upper body of his opponents such as the arms, back, or chest. The dancer must be able to deflect or avoid the opponent's attack, If not he will get injury on his body by the whip. The defender will be declared lost if attacking by whip in his eyes.

In Caci dance performances are usually accompanied by traditional musical instruments such as drums and gongs, and the player also will sing some traditional song that called neggo. In the performance of each group usually has its own supporters. Like a sports game, supporters are also cheering provide support and encouragement to the dancers to win. During Caci dance perfomance, dancers use a tradional custome look like white color trouser combine withtradional sarong that called towe songke,  cover head and the upper body without clothes.

WAE REBO VILLAGE

Wae Rebo Village is one of the Traditional Village in Flores Island. Geographically the village is
situated on 1,200 meters above sea level. Wae Rebo Traditional Village is part of Satarmese District, Manggarai regency, Flores. The village has about 700 residents.
The main destination in Wae Rebo Village is Mbaru Niang or traditional house of manggaraian, but beside the presence of mbaru niang, the situation of this village that far from the bustle of the city and somewhat isolated gives a different feel for each visitor who visited this village. Wae Rebo community still cling to the traditions and local wisdom handed down from their ancestors. This tradition and local wisdom are the the special interest for the traveler who come to This Village.
One of the local wisdom in Wae Rebo village is the community still preserve of mbaru niang. In Wae Rebo itself there should only be seven Mbaru Niang nothing less and nothing more. One house can be occupied six to eight families. The rest of the community who are not accommodated in Wae Rebo (Mbaru Niang) had to move to the Kombo village that located approximately five kilometers from Wae Rebo. And this Village  also known as the twinning of Wae Rebo village because most of the villagers are from Wae Rebo Village.
The house or mbaru niang has five levels, each level designated for a specific purpose. The first level called lutur or living house for the living quarters of the extended family. The second level called lobo, or attic, is set aside to store food and goods, the third level called lentar is to store seeds for the next harvest, the fourth level called lempa rae is reserved for food stocks in case of draught, and the fifth and top level, called hekang kode, which is held most sacred, is to place offerings for the ancestors.

To get to Wae Rebo Village.

The Closest city to Wae Rebo Village is Ruteng Town, But because there is no the airport who serve direct flight to Ruteng town, almost the visitors start trip to Wae Rebo is from Labuan Bajo. You will drive by car or motorbike around 2 hours or more, and before continue to Wae Rebo village the visitor normally will stop for overnight in Denge Village. Denge Village situated in coastal area, from here you can see the view of Mules island, also the scenery of rice field can be found here. This village is the starting point to do trekking to Wae Rebo village. In this village there are some of local guest house that manage by local people on this village.
The distance from Denge Village to Wae Rebo village is 9 kilometers, which can be taken approximately 3-4 hours by foot (depend on stamina). On the way during trekking to Wae Rebo village you will pass the rain forest and small river, also the the sing or birds will always accompany you during the trek.

On arrival in Wae Rebo village, you will do a ritual that’s call Pa’u wae Lu’u that lead by the leader of the village and pray / ask to their ancestor to always protect you during your visiting. Before this ritual you are not allowed to do some activity for example to take the picture. After the ritual you can do some activity and direct socializing with the local people. And at the night you will overnight inside the mbaru niang (traditional house).

RIUNG 17 ISLANDS

The Riung 17 islands located in Riung district – Nagekeo Regency (in the north Part of Bajawa). The
distance from Bajawa town is 75 Km, can be reached in 2,5 hours by car and motorbike. Some part of Riung 17 Islands is located on the mainland of Flores island, and others lie in Riung bay that combine of some small island close one and each other spread along of the marine park.
Riung 17 island consist of some small islands they are: Pata island, Bangko island, Rutong island, Bampa island, Sua island, telu island, Mborong island, Kolong island, Ontoloe island, Sui island, Wire island, desk island, Wawi island, Stone island, Taor island, Laingjawa island, Wingkureo island. The visitor can reach all the islands by speed boat in two hours, but the famous and popular island that can be visited are Rotung Island where you can do snorkeling, and Kolong island where you can see the flying foxes hanging on the mangrove.

Sometimes the visitor can see the giant lizards that’s called mbou by local people in this Islands, and it is look like Komodo Dragon but the size is smaller and the skin color is different With Komodo dragon In Komodo National park. It has black with red spots in its skin. Normally the most activity to do in this island is snorkeling and visit the flying foxes island.

PINK BEACH

Pink beach is located in Komodo Island, it is one of the popular spot that worthy to be visited
in Komodo National Park. The best thing to do in Pink Beach is Snorkeling and diving, but the most visitors come here just want to be relax in Pink sandy Beach. Only here you can find the beach with sandy pink. The beach here become a pinky because united of the shell splinters, foraminefera, and microscopic amoeba causing the red color on the coast. These spot can be reach by local wooden boat around 3 hours or 1,5 hours by speed boat.
Normally if you visit this place, you can combine trip with the others spot such as: Loh liang ( 30 minutes from pink beach by local wooden boat, Manta point and Kanawa island.

To get to this beach, it takes around 3 hours by local wooden boat from Labuan Bajo or 1,5 hours by speed boat. The bets time to do snorkeling in pink beach is in the morning because the water is flat (no raft). You can see the many kind of coral in there, also some type of beautiful fish come closer to you, some time you can see the turtle in here.

LABUAN BAJO

Labuan Bajo is a fishing town located at the western end of Flores in the Nusa Tenggara region of east Indonesia.
Once a small fishing village, Labuan Bajo (also spelled Labuhanbajo and Labuanbajo) in Flores is now a busy bustling center of tourism. It is the launching point for Komodo Tours home to the famous komodo dragons. Nearby Kanawa and Seraya Islands are a great opportunity to do some diving and snorkeling and every evening at Kalong Island thousands of flying fox bats put on an amazing display.
Within a few hours of Labuan Bajo can be found several waterfalls, trekking and many diverse beaches.
The town is quite small and can easily be traversed on foot (in 10–15 minutes). There are various interesting churches and a mosque. Ojeks (IDR 5.000-10.000) and bemos pass every 5 minutes if you get tired of walking. You can rent a motorcycle for IDR75.000 per day. There are now 4 working ATM's in the town and the road is paved.
Komodo Airport is located just 2 km from the center of Labuan Bajo and has 4-6 daily flights arriving from Bali. The port has daily ferry departures to Bima and weekly or bi-weekly departures to Denpasar and Sulawesi.
The local economy in the town is centered around the ferry port and tourism, local shops and restaurants, and the diving trade. Most of the foreign tourists are European, many from Italy, Australia and the United Kingdom. The wider area produces fish and palm oil; there is also a large amount of subsistence agriculture in the villages in the region where living standards are still low. Levels of poverty in the rural areas are high.
The National and Regional Governments have both made 2012 a year to promote the regional tourism around Labuan Bajo and the nearby Komodo National Park with a 6 month long festival from July until December 2012.

BATU CERMIN CAVE

Batu Cermin Cave as known as Mirror Stone Cave is one of the many tourist destination in
Labuan Bajo, Flores, Indonesia. This spot is relatively close to the Center of Labuan Bajo. It's only 4 kms or you can drive around 10 - 15 minutes by car or motorbike.
Why is it called Batu Cermin or Mirror Stone Cave?. If you  enter this cave through the small gate, you will find the first big room inside, then you can move to the left side, and there is another big room here, on this side you can see the sun shine come in through the small  hole of the the cave, incoming light will be refracted in the walls of the cave that consist of some slick and glass stone that can emit the light  to illuminate some part of the cave, so that’s why this cave called Batu Cermin or Mirror stone cave.
Batu Cermin Cave was found by Theodore Verhoen (He was a pastor and also an archaeologist who comes from the Dutch) on 1951. Verhoen said that long time ago Flores island was in the bottom of sea. It can be proved by the discovery of some fossils inside the caves such as cora fossil l , fish fossils ,and turtle fossil.

How to get Batu Cermin cave.
If you start from the center of Labuan Bajo (Soekarno Hatta street), just keep going till you find the three junction, and take to the left side and just direct in the main street. Then you will find also the next three junction, please turn to the right and go straight till you find the traffic lights and turn to the left, keep going till you find the last three junction, and there are 3 direction, you can take the middle direction and please keep going, you will find the traditional Market of Wae Kesambi, just continue till you find the Big letter that written Batu Cermin or Mirror Stone Cave, and you can enter that direction.

In front gate of this cave there is an office where you can pay the entrance fee and registrate your name. Don’t need to scare to explore this cave because you will escort by the ranger or local guide from this place.
